Reference Fields


Description

References are described by text and numerical fields. The name of these further fields are used for input of new data to a database (Edit Reference, Import SDF, etc.).

All fields have a short and long name. The short name is similar to the field abbreviation used by Chemical Abstract Service (CAS). The usage is to write field name and content in one line:

{FieldName} space {Content}, e.g. 'AU Gray, G.W.'.The bold written fields (see table below), are commonly used and can be selected from selection boxes directly. The other more rarely used field names have to be types in directly into the edit windows.

Short Long Explanation
REFNO(NO) REFNO Registration number of the reference given by the user. ''NO" is used only in the 'Edit Reference' window. For input via file or any other import, use "REFNO".Valid entries are integers > 0Only one entry can be given to a reference.
AN CAS_AN e.g.: AN 123:4567w
SH Short A short text string to identify the source.Multiple entries are given in separated lines or are separated by ;e.g.: SH JACS 74, 67
TI Title Title of the reference.
AU Author Author(s) of the reference.Multiple entries are given in separated lines or are separated by ;
ED Editor Editor(s) of the reference.Multiple entries are given in separated lines or are separated by ;
SO Source Name of the journal, book or monograph.e.g.: SO J. Org. Chem.
VO Volume Number/Identifier of the volume of the source. Issue numbers (e.g. monthly count) might be added in parenthesis if needed.e.g.: VO 12e.g.: VO 24ae.g.: VO 12(7-8)
PA Page First ( and last) page of a paper.e.g.: PA 67e.g.: PA L6-L7
PY Year Publication year.
DT DocType Document type (see table below).
KW Keyword Keyword(s) used for the reference.Multiple entries are given in separated lines or are separated by ;
ISBN ISBN International Search Book Number.
URL Internet_Resource WWW-Address
AB Abstract Abstract of the reference.
CO RefComment Comment.
LA Language Language of the reference.
SOTTI Translated_Sourcename Some journals are sometimes referred by the original title (e.g. 'Dalian Ligong Daxue Xuebao' or by the English translation (e.g. 'J. Dalian Univ. Technol.'). SO should take the original title, whereas SOTTI should store the translated title.
SOTPB Translated_Publication Some journal are cover-by-cover translated (e.g. Zh. Org. Khim.  to  Russ. J. Org. Chem.). Volume numbers and pages may be different for the translated paper. SOTPB will store of the translated paper. Use a format as 'SO VO, PA (PY)'
SOERR Erratum_Source Use a format as 'SO VO, PA (PY)'
SOREP Reprint Use a format as 'SO VO, PA (PY)'.Multiple entries are given in separate lines or are separated by ;
PI PatentNo Patent number.e.g.: PI US 1.234.345e.g.: PI JP 11.678.123 (showa)
AI Application e.g.: AI US 78-123.456e.g.: AI JP 78-1.2345
PRAI Previous_Application Previous patent application mentioned for the priority of the patent.Multiple entries are given in separate lines or are separated by ;
PBDate Publish_Date Publication date

The document types are described by text items in a short or a long format

Short Long Explanation
J Journal A original paper in a journal. It is recommended to use standard abbreviations.
P Patent A registered patent.
D Dissertation Dissertation, PhD-Thesis.
B Book Book, Monograph.
C Conference Conference, Abstract, Poster.
2 2nd_Source 2nd source.
I Information_Sheet Information of companies, data sheets etc.
U Unpublished Unpublished, personal communication.
W WWW_Source Internet page/URL.
A Annals/Lab_Books Laboratory journal, user data.
M Master_Thesis Master thesis, local project reports etc.
L Legal_Document Legal documents.
R Review Review.
O Other_Source Other sources.
T Translated_Source Translated sources.

A reference may have multiple document types, e.g. J + R.
