Getting XY Values for Graph - Graph Window - Data of Active Graphic

Description

Graph Tools is a comprehensive collection of functions, which can be used for description and plotting a number of general relations or dependencies on various variables.

Getting XY Values for Graph

To describe all features of Graph Tools we can take with advantage an example of list of pairs. The list was created by searching for all butyls and tert-butyls segments in a database.

There were found 17 pairs in our database. The results looked as follows:

We decided to get relation between boiling points for found pairs. We used the function Get XY Data. Scidex plotted all known boiling points of pairs in a graph.

Graph Window

Plot Area

There is plotted actual graph. Left mouse click on point displays actual X,Y- values in yellow box.

If you have more than one opened graphs in Scidex then after left-clicking on the Graph window, the window of Data of Active Table will display information about active graph.

Right-click shows Graph menu to easily change the content and setting of displayed Data.

Notes

List of information representing each point of graph. To change the content of it, switch to the Data of Active Table window => Column Notes

List of Curves

List of Curves shortly describes all plotted data relations in use.

All at once SciDex built up a table corresponding to plotted out values.

Graph Style

You can select various graph types from this listbox. Also you can decide for two types how to data will be displayed: 2D or 3D.

Line/Curves
is the standard and shows the data as a line or curve.
Curves and Area
shows the curve and shades the area below the curve down to the x-axis.
Attention: this option does not care about the sort order of the x-axis values!
The first and the last x-axis values are used for the left and right boarders of the area below the curve. If the first and the last x-axis values are the same the area is just a line!
Histogram
GraphTool computes a histogram of your data. The default bar width is based on the x-axis major tick marks.
Points/Symbol
If you prefer a scatter diagram, select Points/Symbols. (only for 2D available)
Line Spectrum
A special feature is the Line Spectrum option. GraphTool draws each value as a single vertical line starting at the x-axis and ending at the given y-value. If no y-values are defined in the data set (insert a ? instead of a value), GraphTool plots a vertical line (1/4 length of y-axis) with an arrow and a question mark to illustrate that these values are unknown.

Graph Title

The graph title and the axes-titles can be changed by using the Text option. GraphTool prompts with the data editor and you can change the titles.

Use the following shortcuts for special characters:
{\f1 <Text>} for Greek alphabet
{\b <Text>} for Bold style
{\i <Text>} for Italic style
{\super <Text>} for Superscript
{\sub <Text>} for Subscript

You can recall the original graph title by pushing the Original Title button.

Axis Titles

Insert a title for axis.

Column Notes

Columns are listed in Notes box. Write here your description of data.

Data

There is a sheet to insert your data, which are plotted in Plot Area.

Search

Simple search for any value in table.

Delete Curve

Remove a curve from Curve list but the value in the table are retained.

New Data

Create a new Curve and display empty table sheet ready to insert new values.

New Formula

There is displayed in "Data of" field a name of a curve, which is just created, a field for inserting a formula, radio buttons for choice of scale and fields for setting of minimum, maximum and stepwidth.
